Lesson 2 Description

AR Project Goals
Now that we've defined AR, we move out on a methodical path to attaining it. That begins with the formulation of "goals," i.e., where are we going? Restoration goals are unique to the ecological system in question. They must be compatible with the supporting ecosystem being  manipulated. They must then, be encompassed by that system's Natural Range of Variability (NRV). If outside of that NRV, whether by design or lack of planning, resulting efforts don't qualify as ecologically sound AR. We'll achieve satisfaction by dint of pure luck only. A methodical goal-setting process is necessary to achieve program compliance within the NRV.

In setting AR goals (desired future conditions), key concepts to be considered in the ecosystem analysis are Value, Tolerance, Vulnerability, Responsiveness, and Sustainability.
