Instructions for interactive lessons in ecology

To access and close an interactive lesson:

Verify that your computer system meets the required specifications and is configured correctly.

Note. See "Tips" section for additional assistance on the correct settings for Internet Explorer.

 

Install the plug-in Neuron and set Neuron to "non-secure" mode (this only needs to be set once). Note: The University of Idaho Student Computer Labs are correctly configured for the interactive lessons. On your Windows Vista or XP desktop

1. Start
2. Programs
3. SumTotal Systems (or Click2Learn) or Toolbook
4. Neuron
5. Non-secure mode (this only needs to set once)
Select a lesson.

 

If your system is correctly configured ...

A white background will appear across your screen, followed by a Neuron logo. After a few seconds this is followed a screen that indicates the lesson is loading. The time required for loading is dependent on your network connection speed. Since the interactive lessons are up to 10 Mb in size, the loading time can range from a few seconds to many minutes.

Note: A high speed broadband Internet connection is required for the interactive course materials.

Once the interactive lesson appears, all components of the interactive lesson should work without delay.

 

Click on the button in the bottom right side of any lesson page to end your lesson (in some of the lessons, clicking on the button will take you to the cover page; click again and the lesson will close). To close browser window - if it does not close after your lesson ends

1. Press and hold down the ALT key
2. Press the F4 key

 

As a matter of normal computer maintenance, delete your temporary internet files from the Temporary Internet Files folder. On the browser menu bar, select

1. Tools
2. Internet Options
3. Delete Files
4. Delete all offline content
