Welcome!Welcome! This is one of my favorite classes to teach because we get to talk about the ecological effects of fires and the implications for management. What if we have many more large, severe fires in the future? Are the extensive fires we've had in the last few years the result of climate change, fire suppression, changing land uses, or some combination? How does that change how we respond? Are these fires natural in some places, but not in others? Should we do post-fire salvage logging? Is post-fire rehabilitation successful in limiting erosion and the spread of weeds or not, and if so, how do we decide what's the best treatment? How do fires affect plants, wildlife habitat, air, and soils, and how can we predict these for the future? We'll address these and other issues this semester.
