FOR516:  Hydrologic Effects of Forest Management

Course Objectives:

The objectives of this course are to enhance the ability of graduate students in natural resources and related disciplines to:

    Understand classic and recent research focused on how forest management practices impact watershed hydrology.

bullet

    Critically evaluate hydrologic research with particular emphasis on physical hydrologic processes.

bullet

    Identify future research needs.

Course Format:

The course format will consist primarily of presentation and discussion of journal articles, with several short lectures.

 

Student Presentations:

Each week a student will be assigned to present a summary and lead a discussion of each week’s reading.  Students should prepare brief (1-2 p.) handouts for the class summarizing the key results of the article, and outlining discussion points.  Students who are not presenting articles should prepare a list of notes or article outline and specific questions for each article that is discussed in class.  Notes will collected at the end of each class meeting for assessment.
