Module Learning Objectives

This web module is designed to help you understand the basic concepts of conducting scientific research. Upon completion of this web module you should be able to:
  • Describe the differences between different types of literature
  • Conduct a literature search using the University of Idaho's library and the world wide web
  • Evaluate information you find on the world wide web
  • Understand the parts of a scientific paper
  • Describe how to avoid plagiarism
  • Understand the purpose of the sections in a scientific paper
  • Cite sources you have located in a search in your own writing.

This web module is designed to complete as a whole at your own pace or so that you can quickly access any portion of it for quick reference. There are examples and test question through out the web module which you may use to help evaluate your understanding of the concepts that are reviewed.

This web module is not designed or developed to replace an introduction to technical or scientific writing course. Its primary purpose is to provide you with a summary of the concepts you would receive in an introduction technical or scientific writing course.
