The Experimental Biophysics Measurements Laboratory
is part of a
Biogeosciences Focus Group
at the University of Idaho. The Biogeosciences Focus Group encompasses
research the following definition of Biogeosciences:
The Earth system is
characterized by multiple interacting and interlocking biological and
physical processes. These govern local to global cycles of carbon, nitrogen,
water, and energy. In addition, all living organisms and how they evolve
affect the ecological, chemical, social, and physical composition of the
atmosphere, biosphere, hyrdosphere, and geosphere, Changes in any of these
systems, whether for example internally through evolution or external
through climate change, have impacts on the others.
The interactions of humans, natural and managed ecosystems, and the chemical
and physical environment are complex, multidirectional, and nonlinear, and
their study increasingly requires an integrated multidisciplinary approach.
These interactions and changes occur over extended spatial and temporal
scales.
