The Forest and Rangeland Measurements Lab is involved in a wide range of extension activities. These can be divided into four main components:

(Right: scenes from a workshop co-organized and run with the USDA Forest Service Remote Sensing Applications Center, on Lidar Concepts & Resource Applications, held on 17-19th May 2005 at the Salt Lake City Public Library.)

i. Forestry-remote sensing outreach (ForestPARC):

The ForestPARC component has been operating since 2003 and has been involved in a host of extension activities including the production of synthesis/review papers, the organization of workshops for regional and national stakeholders. and the organization of sessions at international scientific conferences.

ii Hosting of local and regional GIS/Remote Sensing Workshops for Land and Fire Managers:

.This has included workshop for users and researchers on how to use LIDAR, in addition to working with our collaborators to host GIS/Spatial Analysis workshops within the UI CNR GIS Teaching Lab.

iii. Participation in the 401Online Professional Courses for Fire Management Personnel:

Each of Dr Alistair Smith, Dr Eva Strand, and Chad Hoffman are instructors in the on line 401 series. The 401 series is designed to accommodate the educational needs of fire professionals affected by the IFPM 401 standards

.

iv. Development of Online Remote Sensing and Fire Extension Environments :

We are developing a series of online environments to synthesize and extend remote sensing and fire research to stakeholders. The first of these includes: http://www.cnr.uidaho.edu/wildlandfire/fact.htm
