Travel Party Expenditures - Statewide

Up

* Because of the way data were collected, expenditures are reported for a travel party.  Error is introduced by reducing expenditures to per capita estimates (expenditures per person) due to the fact that some expenditures are shared (e.g., lodging).  If you desire per capita estimates, they can be calculated by dividing the average expenditure by the median group size.  The following are the median group sizes for each type of travel party:

*  Expenditure estimates are based on all travel parties regardless of whether they spent money in a particular expenditure category during their trip.  As a result, median values can equal zero if at least half of the travel parties did not make an expenditure of that type.  For lodging, two types of estimates were calculated.  The "Lodging" category includes both travel parties who reported not spending money on lodging (e.g., travel parties who stayed with friends or family) as well as those parties who spent money on lodging.  The "Paid Lodging" category includes only travel parties who spent money on lodging.  Total Daily Expenditure calculations include the "Lodging" category estimates instead of the "Paid Lodging" estimates in order to retain consistency in calculations when combining all of the expenditure categories.
